Lovely aromas of cedar wood, molasses and ginger next to dried cherries. A complex and interesting nose. The taste reveals dark treacle on a stack of warm pancakes with a dusting of ground cloves. In the pleasantly drying finish lingering spices and fruity cherries appear with a whiff of cherry tobacco.

A little piece of history
One of the lost grain distilleries, originally built in 1938 by the Canadian distiller Hiram Walker, who needed a reliable grain whisky source for its blends, notably Ballantine’s. In 1988 Allied Lyons acquired both distillery and brand, but mothballed Dumbarton in 2002. Ballantine’s was subsequently sold to Pernod-Ricard/Chivas Brothers in 2005. The buildings of Dumbarton were taken down to make room for a new housing development. Chivas HQ is still close to the original site. Stocks of Dumbarton are rare and all before 2002.
