A little piece of history
The distillery was built in 1898 by a former manager of Glenfarclas. Due to a collapse in the whisky market, following the (in)famous Pattison Crash, Glen Elgin would not produce whisky until 1906 when it was bought by a wine producer (!). This Mr Blanche passed away in 1929 and the distillery was acquired via auction by Scotch Malt Distillers in 1930. Eventually the distillery would end up in the portfolio of Diageo, after several mergers in roughly 65 years. In the early 2000s Glen Elgin was part of a series called The Hidden Malts, next to Caol Ila, Clynelish and Glen Ord. Nowadays all these Diageo-owned brands are promoted separately.

-
A pleasant and intriguing aroma, starting with warm apple pie, then a hint of honeysuckle, followed by super ripe nectarines and raisins in the back. Digestive biscuits form a steady background. Well balanced. A nice and elegant dram with a sweet/malty finish. Like having the last bite of your apple pie.
